A person's 'Achilles' heel' is his weakness, or his downfall, or a place that is vulnerable. The reference is mythological, but the expression is commonly used. 'I'm doing great on my diet, but dessert is my Achilles' heel'. 'My drawing class is going well, but understanding perspective is my Achilles' heel'. Achilles' heel means a person's weak spot, weakness, or vulnerability. The idiom comes from Greek mythology, and is based off the myth of Achilles. In the myth, Achilles was a great fighter, won many wars, and was indestructible. His only weak spot was his heel because when his mother Thetis(sea goddess) dipped him in the River Styx, she did not dip his heel.

Achille's mom dipped him in the river Styx making him invunerable, except for a small spot on his heel where she held him. It means someone's weak spot.

What does the expression 'the Achilles' heel' mean?

Achilles was a supposedly invicible warrior because when he was a baby, his mother dipped him in some river. She had to hold him by his heel, so that was the only part of him that could be hurt. Later, Achilles was killed when Paris shot an arrow through his heal.
Now we use it to refer to a person's weak spot.

Achilles heel refers to a persons weakness. the story of Achilles was that the Gods told his mother if she would dip him in this particular river then no harm would ever come to him. She did so by holding him by his foot wich did not get submerged in the River Styx, He was killed by an Arrow piercing his heel which was not invulnerable

Achilles was one of the great warriors in the battle of Troy, when his mother dunked him into the river Styx to make him invincible, she forgot about the heel that she was holding him by, therefore the heel was the only vulnerable part on Achilles body. He was killed in the Battle of Troy by Paris, the one who started the whole war , when he shot an arrow into his foot.
