it is null and void, it no longer exist, they do not recognize it anymore -----

example : the parking fee of $5.00 was waived because he purchased season tickets.

The guy above me is wrong cause an option is an option. Nothing has to be waived not to pick up an option.

Waived is when a contract binding term becomes void. For instance, if a player has a binding contract with a team to play for a team for 4 years. After 3 yrs, things don't work out, the team can waive the contract to allow the player be a free agent.

Also, some contracts have a no-trade clause. This contract clause can be waive if things are not working out for both parties.

There are different contract terms that can be waived. These are just the two most common ones.

Waived means they (the team) had the option to pick up the contract on the player. They do not exercise that option the contract and the player are then waived (literally) form the team

For example...the Eagels had the option to pick up TO for another 4 years in the contract last spring. They did not dicide that was a good fit for the team and so they waived the contract, and TO was now considered a free agent.
