I have about 5 butterfly bushes and live in Southern Ontario, Canada. I would like to know if my butterfly bushes should be trimmed for the winter, and if so, when should I trim them and how much should I cut off. Thank you.

You can trim them in the fall. They are one tough little plant. Basically you can prune them to the size and shape you want. They'll winter OK and be blooming for you next summer.

I would trim them in mid winter. They will come out again in the spring and bigger still.

Trim them back as far as you see fit.
Trimming is best for them, they will come back bigger and better next spring!
