I was just wondering when you know you stop growing. I've recently turned 17 and am around 5'6 when i wake up and 5'5 when i sleep. I've never really had a growth spurt, its only been like 1 to 3 inches a year for the past 4-5 years or whenever i started puberty. I'm taller than both my parents (they're short i know), but my brother is around 2 inches taller than me right now but he's older. I feel that i'm still growing but i just want a general idea on when i'll be finished. Also, does stretching out, and not being under too much stress help increase the growth rate? Thanks.

You know you've stopped growing when you stop growing. There's no absolute rule for everybody. Most people get shorter during the day because gravity compresses the spinal cord. You should actually get a little taller during the night. Your height is programmed in your genes for the most part, but height is one of those genetic traits affected by the environment over time and generations. You can talk to your doctor about your growth hormone level and if it is abnormal, you might get some help there, although at 17, you are about as tall as you will be.

It depends on your parent's genes. The average american stops growing for a female is about 16-18 year of age. My sister stopped growing when she was about 16 at 5'6. She's already finish puberty and all complete. There's a chance you can grow about one inch within 5 years of age. But there's a chance you won't. Don't worry about your height, your at average height and possibily you might grow.

Well most people stop growing around the age 15-17. It's hightly unlikely for a person to continoue to grow after the reach that age. You can stretch all you want but it doesn't help you grow, and no stress doesn't help, in fact it adds fat to your body if you get too stressed.

Put your arms out straight at your sides, get someone to measure across from the tip of you middle finger to the tip of your other middle finger. The length is the exact height you will reach. It is a known fact that the two measurements are the same, and that your arms will finish growing quite a while before you finish getting taller. If they are the same length you have stopped, if the measurement is greater than your height, well that is how much you have left to grow.

There is only one way to grow taller and that is through sleep. We grow at a much faster rate when we get a good deep sleep. This has been proven and I have witnessed this myself. I had a friend who was a very heavy snorer. He had a twin who was much taller. When the smaller brother had his snoring fixed he grew very quickly and caught up with his brother.

Try to get more sleep and you may see a difference. It is a slow process though. Good luck!
