i have a 90 gal. tank that hade the same problem so this is some of the things that I did. put some foam that the water will go though where the water drops to the hole and change it or clean it 1-2 times a week so it won't back up. this sure end the sound. if not goto your pet store and ask for bio-ball that break up the fish poo and other things, put them in the same place over the hole where the water goes. if that does not work try putting in a slower pump so the water moves slower.. you might have to a few of the things to fix it.. if these don't work ask some one at your pet store and see what they say...

My tank makes a lot of noise when the water level is not high enough. According to manufacturer instructions, the water level should be about 1 1/2 inch from the rim for my 25-gal tank.

The water in your tank may not be at the correct level or be too hard or too soft.

Did you mistakenly put the fish in the toilet by mistake? Don't flush until you "fish" them out.

How high is the water? What kind of filtration do you have on it? How big is the tank?
