I would recommend natural breast milk, if possible.
It is called similac, because it lacks about everything. No seriously, there is no substitute for breast milk. Your baby will be much better off. I think ,if you check my answer with scientific evidence, you will see it is correct. Breast fed baby's tend to be healthier, and have higher intelligence. Your anti- bodies are passed on to your child. This will be beneficial to your child's health.

lissa- You may not believe the scientific bull crap, as you put it because your children turned out okay. Do you know that they would not be better off if breast fed?
Does similac, good start, or enfamil, contain your natural antibodies??? NO,they do not.

Jennyve25- You use a formula, and your baby has projectile vomiting? I have never heard of breast milk, causing projectile vomiting. Also, I believe that your children turned out just fine, on a bottle. That is largely due to genetics. But again, you cannot answer the question, Would they have been even better off on breast milk?

michele,d...w- Similac caused your child to get thrush? Give your child what God almighty intended. The natural breast milk he made. It is very superior.

You will find that most formulas have the same ingredients. Similac just put out a new formula that has DHA and ARA which has been proven to help with brain development. It is Simlac Advance. I have had both of my children on Similac formulas (Isomil for my daughter and Lactose Free for my son) and they have done fine on them. Similac is also one of the lowest priced formulas you will find. If your baby is doing fine on the Similac, there should be no reason to change the formula. My neice was on Similac and had problems with gas and spitting up, so my brother switched her to Good Start. She does great on the Good Start, and the formula does not smell as bad as the others do. I know a lot of people that prefer Good Start. It really depends on what your baby likes. You should ask your pediatrician what he/she feels is the best formula to give to a newborn. Everyone has their own opinions though. I listed a few sites that I found helpful on this subject. Good luck finding a formula that works for you. I wish you the best!!

Check out the second site. It has info on ingredients in the Good Start and Similac. I actually learned a lot from researching this.

My son had a problem with the Similac, but did really well with the Nestle Good Start. I think if your baby is doing well on Similac then maybe you should just let the baby stay on it. If you do run into problem with the Similac then talk to your doctor about switching to Nestle Good Start. If you do go with Nestle Good Start and sign up with www.verybestbaby.com they will give you some good coupons for you next purchase of Nestle Good Start.

When I had my daughter, I looked at the labels on Enfimil, Similac, Good Start, and also Parents Choice, ( walmart brand) and they were all the same. I asked my Dr about this, and he said that it was a matter of preference on what my daughter liked best. There are some differences in the way that the powder looked, and she preferred the Enfimil over the rest, but I don't know why... Ask your Dr and they should be able to help you. You should be able to just call and they can tell you over the phone.. Good Luck

I was using enfamil and my baby was projectile vomiting and while on it, ive swithced to good start supreme and though it is alot more expensive it smells and tastes way better, (is kind of close to breast milk but not as sweet) and has ara and dha which is found in breast milk which is the reason i am using it. Those other formulas may not have it, also my baby is less gassy is not projectile vomiting either now so i think that it is easier to digest.

Ive thought about the breastfeed info too, I know tons of intelligent well adjusted people who were not breast fed, and on that note I know a lot of screwed up losers who act stupid who were, so really I dont know how someone can gage that sort of thing at all.

I used Good Start with both of mine. I switched with my first one after a week or two and just did it gradually...adding a scoop to the Similac every time I mixed a batch. I loved the Good Start and will probably use it for my next child, due in May. Good luck!

If the baby has no problems why switch. I gave my baby similac soy the poop stank but she never spit up. But you can always try the other and see how she reacts to it if she reacts fine switch your her mommy you can feed her any formula you want. I would try it for a few days and see then if she doesnt like it make sure you still have similac can babies can get real angry if they cant keep the formula down and are hungry.good luck

You could always try other formulas and see if they work as well. My daughter is on Similac Isomil advance, and I have tried a few other brands, but she has done the best with similac.

When i brought my daughter home i started her on Similac but for some reason she didnt like it, i think she was too gassy on it. I ended up switching to good start and i am happy i did. MY daughter seems much more comfortable on it and is alot less gassy.

first of, do what YOU want to do. If you want to feed with formula, than do so. I had no desire to breastfeed at all. My girls have never had the flu, and only got sick once my oldest went to preschool. They are also very smart. So I don't believe in the "scientific" bullcrap. Anyways, both my girls got sick on Similac, so I switched them to Parents Choice, my DR. said that was perfectly fine to do. Good luck with your little one!
