I am a dog lover and former mail carrier, so I can speak to this.
Dogs often bark at visitors, but not the way they bark at mail carriers. This is because most visitors to the house act like visitors. They approach somewhat slowly, stop politely at the door, knock or ring, wait...they don't act like they own the place, but as if seeking permission to be there. Which they actually are. The mail carrier, on the other hand, walks up quickly, as if (s)he owns the place and has has every right to be there! Not at all like a visitor. This looks very rude and presumptuous to the dog. In fact, the Carrier already has "permission," and does have the right to be there for the limited purpose of delivering mail, but most dogs don't know about this.

Its not just mailmen they usually bark at. Dogs generally protect their house and if they see a strange person walking up, they like to "protect" their territory. I hope this helps! :)

no longer all canines do, it quite is in basic terms a steryotype. various canines basically greet the mailmen. besides the indisputable fact that, some canines bark and chase at any tresspassers, and the mailmen are basically the main uncomplicated because of the fact they arrive on an popular basis.

dogs will bark at any stranger who enters there space. the mailman is a regular stranger. You see them bark at him more often because he is there more often.
