If you walked into a jewellery store to buy a present for your loved one and on the wall was a picture of Gerald Ratner with the inscription 'Our Owner'- What would you do?

I would say "crap" and walk out

It depends on what the nature is of the infamy the person has. Ratner being the owner might put some people off but with most it wouldn't even register. However, Myra Hindley died in jail. Sometimes the public memory is handed down through the generations.

You probably have to be over 30 to remember this one or a business student, as Gerald made his infamous comment about 15 years ago (1991).
Off course he may been voicing something that was/is common place in the industry. But I would find it difficult to buy from anyone who has no enthusiasm for the product/service they're selling, so I too would walk out.

Not sure I'd recognise him in a picture though.

Seriously though, sometimes people just don't care if something is a load of old rubbish - quite often you get what you pay for. Especially now we have the freedom of the Internet and more information at our disposal.
