If you have system that will allow you, add more RAM & a faster processor. I would also suggest regular maintenance, such as: defragmenting the hard drive, running scan disk, deleting cookies, running disk cleanup, running & updating Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware.

More memory will help, in the short term, scan for spyware with Spy-bot Search and Destroy. Scan for adware with Ad-Aware. Use AVG Antivirus, it uses less system resources. Windows Defender is also good to have. All are free downloads. Then do a "defrag".

WONDER WHY THE XP IS SO SLOW EVEN WITH ENOUGH
MEMORY AND DISK SPACE!
HERE'S THE SOLUTION {100%}

After you have "ofcource" backed uped your "REGISTRY" !!!
Follow the "EXACT" steps and "RESTART" the system when indicated. . . . .
** {I have tried different sequence, but this is the most effective}***
*If in safe mode still you have to restart when re-commended*

Disconnect all the external devices.....

step 1.
My computer >> Right click C: >> properties >> Uncheck "Allow indexing service to index this disk for fast file searching
" Click apply , apply to all folders and subfolders, you might get a Error message(Click ignore all). wait for it to apply the attributes.....This might take 5 min This option may not be available if there are two Hard.disks, then skip to step 2.
Restart or shutdown the system(is a must)

step 2.
Start-Run-Regedit Click the plus (+) sign next to the following folder names:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE//SYSTEM//CurrentControlSet//Control //Click on "Control" .
on the right screen Right click on "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" and select Modify.

Set it a value lower than 2000 (For example: 200) Close the registry editor window and

Restart the system(is a must)

step 3.
Start-Run-Regedit Click the plus (+) sign next to the following folder names:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER // CONTROL PANEL// DESKTOP on the right hand side

right Click on AutoEndTasks and Select Modify default value is 0. Change it to 1. Click OK
WITHOUT RESTARTING
(on the same page) on the right side Look for WaitToKillAppTimeout and right click and Select Modify and

change the value to 3000 and then click OK
Restart the system(is a must)

step 4.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE//System//CurrentControlSet//Control
Double click on the folder named FileSystem. On the right pane, look for key by the name
"NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation" and then Right Click on it and Select Modify and set its value to 1 and then click OK .

On the left screen Click on the plus Sign (+) next to each of the Folders,
Software//Microsoft//Dfrg ...Click on the folder named BootOptimizeFunction. On the right pane look for Enable.
Right click on it and select Modify and set it to 'Y' for enable.
(IF you Already have 'Y' erase it and put 'N'...then erase it and put 'Y' again) and then click OK ,
close the registry and restart the system.

Keep smiling...
