Seriously, I have read it a dozen times, for its philosophy, grand escapism and impeccable writing and story telling....I was hooked at the part about the sloth....the last time I read it, at the last sentance I almost turned it over and started again.

None of my friends or family read...except for like crime novels so I have no help....

I like classics and if I had to chose a favorite author it would be Margaret Atwood.

Any reccomendations?

try "reading lolita in teheran" and the "kite runner" for contemporary novels.
for classics, try charles dickens, tolstoy, flaubert's "madame bovary", "the good earth" by pear buck.

how about 'lord of the flies' by william golding, and 'catcher in the rye' by jd salinger. Two excellent books i thought.

A good thing to do is go to amazon.com and search for books under a particular genre that you like, they all have ratings and reveiws so it might give you ides of some books you might like to read.

If you liked Life of Pi, I'd reccommend any book that's considered a "classic." (especially for the reasons you mentioned)
