It depends. If following your heart involves hurting someone else's feelings, its probably not that good of an idea. For example, if your bestfriend and you both like "Brian" not a good idea to screw over your bff for a bf. She will be there for you a lot longer than he will. If it's just using your intuition on a decision and you feel that its the smartest thing to do for you, then go for it. It doesnt matter what other people say because its YOUR decision. If i ask somone whether i should wear my pink or blue shirt and they say pink but i already knew i wanted to wear my blue one, i'm going for my blue shirt. Most of the time, you already know what your decision should be, jsut go with what you feel is best. Dont be ignorant tho, take other people's advice into consideration, just dont let them decide for you. For following your heart- it depends. The question you should be asking is do YOU think its a good idea with the situation your applying it to? If you dont know make a list of reasons why and why not.... it'll help.

Why would following your heart not be the 'smart' thing to do? It shouldn't matter what others think or if whatever it is you are trying to do doesn't work out...following your heart will never leave you wondering what could have been...

You have to follow your heart as long as you know what youre doing is right. If others don't agree with your decision it's okay because everyone is different. Explain to them why you think its right and if they still don't agree, you should not be with those people in the first place

I think it is good to follow your heart yet, still, consult with your rational side. To follow the heart for me means, that you are going to do something that will make you happy without hurting yourself and others. For example, if you want to be a famous personality and you strive to achieve that dream. But you noticed that you're becoming materialistic and you hurt other people's feelings. So, you have to think of how you must change your attitude to be a better person.

Totally depends on the situation, where it is gong to lead to, and other things. But, I do know that IF I had of followed my heart and gut feelings before marrying my ex, I wouldn't have married the S.O.B., but I also wouldn't have met his kids and helped to raise them. And IF I hadn't of followed my heart after meeting my now fiance, I wouldn't be with him, getting ready to marry him, become a stepmom to his 3 wonderful teen girls, and be living a great life with him!

It's not always a good idea. sometimes, one's heart can be a perfect idiot. It's always good to take rational thought into consideration. However, there are also times when it's best to break away from the crowd and take a risk.

I've found that it's not always possible to follow your heart. Things get in the way. Life gets in the way. Sometimes you have to use your head.

Depends. take advice from those who care about you the most. Chances are, they're right, and when they say that it's wrong and they are only looking out for you, BELIEVE THEM! One bad choice can change your life forever. I know this sounds like a bad advice column, but seriously. If you specify as to what you're dealing with then maybe you'll get more specific responses. just a suggestion.

No its not best. Your "heart" is just your emotions and you can't just go around catering to emotions that don't make any sense. If an action is not smart then it is by definition not the best thing to do. Fallow the sum of your emotions and your logic.
