Consider sitting down with your boss and discuss why he doesn't listen to your ideas.

Also consider asking others how well you sell your ideas. Half of making things happen is how you suggest ideas.

You can also show your boss that you are dependable by taking on extra tasks and working harder. Respect is earned.

Now if your boss is a jerk and you don't get along, the only answer may be to find another job.

I've managed people for many years.

You must be new to the job. The Boss is always right. So relax, and do not show to your boss that you know more than him. Keep all suggestions to your self or if you have access to the boss above your boss, try giving your suggestions there. This is a tricky issue but not that cannot be handled. Meantime, try jobs elsewhere and be on the look out to quietly disengage yourself. It is no point in working under somebody who is not upto the mark and you will not learn anything. So better move on.

Hopefully, he has a boss. If this is the case, go to his boss with this problem. If he gets mad at someone he is in charge of making suggestions, he probably thinks he is better. I don't know of any way to confront him, but going to his boss might have a different ending. If your boss thinks he is better than you, then he is more likely to listen to his boss, or else he might lose his job.

You have to keep quiet if you work for him, unless he asks for feedback. I know it sucks, but it's always the best way to deal with bosses in every situation.

You apply for his job, or tell his boss how smart you are.

Perhaps you are not as knowledgeable or as gentle as you think but if he doesn't want to hear it stop making suggestions.
