Okay. You want to know what I think about egyptians. Well, when I think of Egypt, I'll always think about the rich history and culture they have. Sheesahs and belly dancing ladies with beautiful figures and nice colourful clothings that you ladies used. Some of them with those shiny things that's daggling on your dresses. That's nice.
Not to mention the musics with lots of drumming and beats that's sure to get people tapping their feet when they hear them.

I think the biggest problem about understanding this as being a stupid stereotype is that in America if we study the Middle East as children it's mostly the ancient history of Egypt and other ancient mesopotamian civilizations. Unfortunately we rearely get to study the more recent histories of other countries. We tend to focus on American history (although I don't know why since it's soooo short and soooo boring) much more. Another big contributing factor is the media. In clasic tv shows and movies such as I love genie and lawrence of arabia we see images of this sort of thing all the time. We see what the Mid East WAS like but there is little of modern culture in the media we see. These old, old images are ingrained in our brains because it's what we grew up seeing. Beyond that even on the educational channels like discovery and The Learning Channel we see documentaries on Egypt which focus on ancient life and often feature the token camel being ridden. My favorite moment of media stupidity was a scooby doo episode which took place in morocco but featured the pyramids complete with egyptian mummy. My other favorite is when people ask if there's air conditioning in Egypt. Americans (being one I know this first hand) are lazy! We take in other information and process it as our own which hives us a lot of stupid and conflicting ideas but since we are lazy we don't really want to do anything to change our knowledge of a subject. I wish all americans were as facinated with mid east history, both ancient and modern, as I am but it seems to be a rareity

I know that that is not the truth, Cairo is an amazing city, huge and extremely modern. It also has a lot of traffic and smog so I think no one is using camels these days. And Alexandria is one of the most beautiful places in the world, but you also need to know that your countrymen have the same ideas about my country, I live in the USA close to an Indian reservation and my mother in law thought that they still live in tee-pees and ride horses. And since I live in New Mexico they think that we are a part of Mexico and speak Spanish. It was not until I go to Egypt for the first time to meet my husbands family that they realize that I am really an American and not Mexican. But they are nice so it is OK. Dont let them get to you.

I've lived a lot of my life in Sydney, and have had friends ask me at various times: Is there running water, like, from taps? Doesn't it just have dirt roads? Do kangaroos hop down the street in Sydney centre? Did I have to fly to school every day in a bush plane? Does Australia have proper hospitals & things?
People have some weird notions. The only cure - get out there yourself, guys! If the world is half as weird as you imagine, you're in for some fantastic adventures...

it is not a remarkable discovery, dear. and it is not about us only, actually the whole Arab world is looked upon by average persons like that. You can understand why some people out there think that way about us..well, we actually don't contribute to the world by anything valuable you know..we, sadly, are BIG consumers, we BUY technology, science, vertually everything. Anyway, it is normal, you ask an average Egyptian about any country crosses your mind and listen to how he imagine the people are living there! it is embarrassing!

the only 2 approaches are street or a flight. common tourist buses run from Sharm to Cairo - the roads interior the Sinai are truly surprising and bloody risky. Egypt Air run flights between Cairo and Sharm - astonishing provider - attempt and get an Egyptian to e book the flight then do a attractiveness substitute - lots extra value-effective

I've never thought that, mainly because I read a lot about Egypt. I'm fascinated by Egyptian history and culture, and it's unfortunate that some people form their opinions based on tired cliches.
