Check out Pascal's Wager in The Pensees, a rather famous Enlightenment answer.

Theists believe in God.
Atheists don't believe in any form of any god.
Typically they have their own reasons.
As for me, I'm an Atheist.
1) I believe people need God more than God needs people.
2) There have been countless religions on this planet, all which claim to be the only "correct" religion
3) Many religions are highly adaptable - many allow you to "pick and choose" what you want or don't want to believe
4) If God is omni everything, what does he care if I worship him so long as I live a good & moral life?
5) Complete and utter lack of any type of proof
6) Logic
7) Psychological benefits from how various religions teach you how to think
8) etc.......... Too much to list.

I believe in god. The existence of an infinite is pointed to by the difference between the essential and the existential. Even we as finite beings can participate in the infinite and the essential (the essence of a chair is transcendant of the physical existential manifestation of the chair, the essence of a human being transcends the existential manifestation).
our ability to imagine and concieve of something points to it's possibility of being. the fact that we can concieve of an infinite hints that an infinite may have the power to be. try imagining something that is unconcievable. the unimaginable is simply that: unimaginable... even the finite is imaginable.
one other point: when people ask what is god? what is the will of god? we tend to anthropomorphosize the answer: god is super-human, all powerfull, all wise, completely good, all knowing... we take what would be the ultimate according to a human concept of perfection and assume that god is just that. the will of god then becomes the will of a divine personality. good and bad become dependant on whether what you do coincides with what this divine personality chose as the optimum outcome. however, the divine personality could have chosen otherwise. this makes good and bad conditional: on the will of god.
I believe good and bad to be unconditional... we must re-understand the will of god. the will of god should be seen as our essential nature. we are to be in existence what we are in essence. when something we do brings us into alignment with our existence we are acting in accordance with the will of god.
if any of this seems interesting to you, I suggest looking up Paul Tillich at your local library, or soren kierkegaard (Fear and Trembling, would be a good one)

To believe means to be convinced of something without proof. I am not a blind believer in anything. There is no convincing evidence that any gods exist. Yes, I did say gods. If you say one god exists, you must account for the other gods in which people have believed as fervently as you believe in yours. The universe is complex enough without inventing a being even more complex and saying he created it. It is more logical to say forces of nature, not bearded Jews in the sky, are at work.

I definitely believe in God. I mean who else could have created everything. I really don't think that we just popped up out of nowhere. There may be things in the English Bible that are twisted because it was translated from Hebrew, but I believe everything. The Old Testament and the New Testament.

I believe in God because I believe the chance of a simple universe capable of intelligently designing complex universes will occur many times before a complex universe will spontaneously exist. So in other words, a universe we call "God" is statistically more probable than a a complex universe without one.

I do not believe in a supernatural entity that is omnipotent, benevolent or omniscient (sp). Unless there's proof, its just fanciful thinking.
It reminds me of the movie "The Gods Must Be Crazy." In that movie, a native tribesman finds a Coca-Cola bottle. I find parallels in his logic and that of the modern day Theists. I fail to see the difference between them, "hmmm, bottle fall from sky, must be god" and "hmmm, beautiful sunsets, butterflies and complex human organisms, must be god."
In either case, one is replacing one unknown with another, but proving nothing. Because the bible says so, does not make it true.
But i understand that obsolete genes do not die overnight, and we'll be seeing people believing in god using CAVE MAN logic for the forseeable future.

Empirical proof of the transcendental requires transcendental senses, and our transcendental senses are now covered by our gross and subtle material bodies. But from logical inference derived from our everyday experience, we see that any complex machine doesn't simply manifest out of nothing and that machine doesn't operate on its own with no supervision. The touch of a living being is always required. Similarly, this universe is a complex machine and therefore it is illogical to think there is no one who supervises the operation of this universe. In the Vedic literature, a detailed explanation of how the Lord empowers His devotees, called devas in Sanskrit, to create, maintain, and dissolve this cosmic manifestation. And in the Bhagavad-gita also we find the following text: "I am the source of all spiritual and material worlds. Everything emanates from Me. The wise who perfectly know this engage in My devotional service and worship Me with all their hearts." [Bg.10.8]

Just take a look at... nature, for example. Nature is evidence that there is something or someone higher than human beings. There is precision in the most minute things.
