The most distant object visible to the unaided eye is the Andromeda Galaxy, about 2.9 Million light years distant.

About 600 feet with any clarity at all, though in open waters a person can see very large objects on the horizon many, many miles away so I'd say a person can see about as far on open seas as where the curvature of the earth prevents him from seeing any farther. I'm not precisely sure how far until the earth starts to curve but I'd ball park it at 100 to 200 miles. Good question.

Well, let's think about it. The moon is a quarter million miles away. The sun is 93 million miles away. Jupiter is a piece of cake at 365 million miles away, and Saturn is about twice that. The brightest star visible at night from earth is 8.5 light years away, or over 40 trillion miles away. And on a good clear night, you can just make out the Andromeda galaxy at 2.5 million light years (or over 6,000,000,000,000,000,000 miles away).

It depends on how bright the light is.
We can see far away galaxies.
