That's not entirely clear.

Here is a statement from the official Suave website, which does not quite say their products are not tested on animals, although they seem to want to give that impression:
"What is Suave’s policy on animal testing? Suave and Unilever share your concern over this important matter and we are committed to the elimination of animal testing. We do NOT test any of our home or personal care products on animals except where required by law or government regulation. We will continue to work for alternative methods by participating in industry and scientific programs as well as to support legislation that promotes the elimination of animal testing."

Here is another Suave statement:
"Do your products contain animal by-products? Any Product Containing Glycerin and / or Stearic Acid contains animal by-products. Stearic acid comes from beef tallow and Glycerin may be either synthetic or natural which is derived from beef tallow or coconut."

You can contact the Suave company using their contact form at:

According to the Global Action Network (GAN), Suave/Unilever is on a list of "Companies That DO Test on Animals." Here is the list, which GAN says was compiled by People for the Ethical Treament of Animals (PETA):

However, I could not find any reference to Suave products on the PETA website itself. Here is contact information for PETA:

Covergirl, Maybelline, Garnier, Suave, and Herbal Essances test on animals. St. Ives does not test their final product on animals, but people don't seem to know if they test on animals somewhat. Some vegans do use St. Ives and consider it animal friendly. Dial and Vaseline test on animals also. Whole Foods sells some products that are not tested on animals.

No, they're not.
At least they're listed as one of the companies that are NOT cruelty-free. Here's a site with a list of NON cruelty-free companies:

My daughter routinely leaves hair products made by a company called "suave" in our shower.

I have used these products on occasion.

In each case it was painless, and I detected no cruelty.
