Cold or shock will do that. What is the temperature? If it is below 72, you need to increase to about 78 to 80. If there is not enough air inthe the water, fish will gasp at the surface, If they have Ick (Icthyopthirus), they will rub against things in the tank and have small white spots over their bodies (got to a pet stop and get an ick cure). If you have just bought these fish, it could be that your water is very different from the water they were kept in, but unless your water is very bad, they will adjust. Always remove any dead fish at once. But I think your temperature is the problem.

First check if their water conditions are good with a master test kit. If the tank isnt large enough, they could be dying and need to be moved to a larger tank. Increase oxygen and ASAP ( air stone). YOUR FISH ARE STRESSED! Also, adjust levels properly with chemical. Do a water change also.Check filter to make sure it is not clogged, and is working properly. Check for parasites and ick, as well as flukes. If any appear, Id try a small aquarium salt treatment ( check to see if fish is able to take salt). It is not good if they are lying at the bottom. If you have isolation tanks, use them.

Fish will lay on the bottom to sleep, but in your case it sounds like they have a problem (you wouldn't ask this question otherwise). Most health problems in fish are caused by poor water quality leaving the fish weak and more prone to problems. Try changing 20% of the water today, and again in four days. Don't feed your fish for three days and the water quality in your tank will improve significantly. Try adding freshwater salt (one level teaspoon/gallon) to also help the fish out.

Is he in a 2.5 heated and filtered tank? Does he have an air stone (makes bubbles)? How previous is he? If he's previous, which may be the reason of him being lazy and not desirous to devour. Mine did no longer devour and laid on the backside for about 3 days and exceeded directly to the excellent beyond. So be waiting to enable him flow. in case you have some stress stuff placed a number of that for the period of there and make particular the pH and temperature are basically precise for a betta. in any different case, i do no longer comprehend what's the difficulty with him. superb of success with him!

prime is a good water conditioner..u need to take a water sample in a baggy to a pet store. could be temp. change or ph has changed or ammonia. prime can reduce the ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates..how many fish?? most tanks are under oxygenated. oxygen levels should be around 8 on the oxygen test..most tanks are 5 or 6.. so the more fish u have or the bigger they get , the more oxygen is needed.. bigger filters and or air pump will help

Ammonia build up in the water. Get a proper filter with ammonia reducing zeolite, and activated carbon.
Don't use tap water unless you counter the chloramines.
Go to the aquarium store.
A way to rescue the fish. Get a big plastic bowl. Use bottled spring water. Bring up the temperature to 80 degress. Use a plastic bag to transfer the fish to accustom them to the temperature. Otherwise the fish will die.

They are definitely stressed out for some reason. What are your water parameters like? Have you done anything differently as of recent with either Chemicals or the temp of the tank?

Sometimes fish sleep that way. Make sure you keep the tank clean. Ask an expert about this.
