It depends on why you want to get a GED. I'm a 46 y/o single mom of two. My son wanted to drop out when he was 15 and get a GED. I was dead set against it, at first. But, he has a genius level IQ and the school district kept telling me he was LD!
After catching him skipping school and declining grades, I finally allowed him to drop out and take the GED. He score within the 98th percentile in the country; without even studying!
He is now 19, and off to medical school. Oh, btw, a High School Diploma, ACT's, SAT's don't mean S@*T if ya got brains, and ya use them, kiddo!

If you drop out of school the rest of your life will be filled with such engaging conversation as - Would you like fries with that? Can I get you more coke? Do you want me to polish your hubcaps too? Do you have a Kroger Card? etc Stay in school and go to college or you'll end up living under a bridge down by the river.

I can only answer for myself: I bummed around till I was 21 and then did a matriculation course, followed by a bachelor of arts degree at university. Mostly, I got better marks than those who were there just out of high school. For me, the effects of dropping out of high school were nothing but positive.

I would say that it is not the brightest thing to do. education is very important. You need to be able to support yourself, maybe a family. Unless you have money already, but still you need to be able to communicate properly. How do you exist with out an Education. There are so many reasons too many to talk about. I would suggest as much schooling as possible.

Well, where I'm from you'll either get a G.E.D., become a drugdealer cause its hard to find a good job either get caught or get enough to stop become presentable enough to go out and get some schooling and get a good job and start a family, OR, You could get caught and continously sale and get caught, OR, go the military route its alot of things but know this if you do drop out the guy with his diploma will definitely get the job before you

Negative, even if you get a GED. To many people, it denotes a lack of staying power, someone who couldn'[t make the necessary grades to graduate, someone irresponsible; many other negative ideas. I am not saying these are true. I am saying this is how others perceive a drop out, as a loser.
