Unplug the power and ethernet cable for at least 10 seconds. If not your gonna have to release and renew your IP.

how did you access here?
look get an ip address for a broadband server and a username and password like bt. they have instructions when installing broadband to route the broadband router to the network on the line. if your friend (giver of said) has a fixed rate and no download limits from his service then you should be flying?
if you have a broadband service, and server name and password, and are working from a pc in the same way, and u wanna create a network with ie the same router for the pc with a usb connector for the router read the manual and the ip address for your dlink router attached to network is there just want to go into msdos and ping the ip of your router which you can find from msdos command (type it in run "cmd.exe") netstat.exe is a connection checker but you might have to change the last digit to 2 if your pc works on eg 255.255.255.1 (the router address)
ping.exe the connection to know it is there and "network conections create new connection/broadband connection that is always on"/finito!!! any questions
alternatively get the ip address of the router then put it in the internet browser window set up the router as said by your broadband providers details in the setup window of your router, or top of page, then network connections network card and broadband always on step 2!!!

You have two possible issues. First, your router may not be physically connected to the internet. Check to make sure your physical connection (via modem or whatever) is correct. Then shut down your computer, then the router, then the modem (if you have one), in order. Then restart them in reverse order (modem, then router, then computer).
If this does not fix the problem, then your router is misconfigured. It does not have the proper DNS and default gateways installed, or it is not pushing DHCP out to your laptop. Make sure the router has the proper IP information (IP address, subnet mask, DNS server, default gateway, etc.). Make sure it is pushing this information out to your laptop via DHCP (run ipconfig /all from a command prompt, and check to make sure your IP scheme on the laptop matches what is stored in the router).
