I have Limewire Pro 4.0. It informs me if a file I am downloading contains a virus or if it is a bad file before it is fully downloaed. I love Limewire. The Pro version I have is perfectly legal.

Limewire technically itself is NOT illegal it's a peer to peer file sharing program. If friends use it to send pictures or documents to each other then that's fine helps out with large files. I know musicians who use it to send other musicians MP3's they themselves own and want remixed or mixed with what that other musician is making.

You can get viruses from pretty much any program that accesses the net back in the day of FTP you could get viruses. You can get adware and spyware from downloading some free games or screensavers off the web. As long as you have an updated security program you should be fine. Pretty much all new viruses are just poorly scripted clones of another virus. The only way you're going to get viruses from LimeWire is if some wannabe hacker puts a virus in a file you're trying to download a good security program will stop those cold. I use two McAffe and Norton and some stuff from Sunbelt Software and i have a German anti-virus program that is spawned from anti-virus hell.

Let's put it this way you can use a knife to kill someone but does that make the knife illegal? No just what you did with it. The same applies to LimeWire it can be used for legal and illegal activities.

So you're not going to go to jail for having a copy of LimeWire on your computer. I have friends who work at Dell and they use LimeWire to trade files because you don't have to be on the computer for someone to get the file they need from your system.

You will of course want to have a broadband connection such as cable or DSL to use LimeWire and a decent system.

No. You can use limewire illegally by downloading copyrighted material, though. You can get viruses, lots of people put up malicious programs, hidden in normal files.

It's illegal for copyright programs (it's spammed with that stuff) and you can get viruses from downloading something that you might think is something else.

no not really and yes.
It is only illegal to download copyrighted material (read; any song you want to listen to.
Just make sure you have virus protection and scan any files if it doesn't do it automaticlly.
