Only infectious or communicable diseases can spread. Diabetes is not one of those. Diabetes is not caused by any virus, bacteria, or whatsoever so in a simple explanation, it has nothing to spread. To describe briefly to understand : Diabetes is a metabolism disorder in which the body produces inadequate amount of insulin. An insulin is a hormone produced by pancreas needed for the carbohyrates metabolism, so an inadequacy will be treated by giving pharmaceutically-made insulin or tablets that can stimulate insulin production by the pancreas.

So whoever or whatever is the source of diabetes, it cannot spread by any contact. It can be passed through heredity though, that is one way of having it.

Just think, how could you get a physiological defect from another body. In contrast, it is the same like thinking of geting broken leg after a contact with a dog or anyone with leg broken.

Hope that's clear enough.

No, I don't think so. The only thing that makes me hesitate, is that some cancer forms, that we used to think was genetic, has been shown to be caused by viruses.
