All of my music files on my computer used to have the Windows Media Player emblem that I would click to play them, now they all changed to an emblem that is a blue note with mp3 written on it. Any ideas how they all changed?

I think this happened because you might have installed anew program that is capable of playing your MP3 files. So it has now been set as the default player which is why your icons have chnaged. To change it back to Windows Media Player :

On WIndows XP : Right click on an MP3 file. Click on Choose Program on the menu. Abox will pop up listing the programs for you to choose from. Click on Windows Media Player. At the bottom of the pop up box, there is a check box option stating "Always use the selcted program to open this kind of file." Check it. Click on apply and your icons will go back to the WMP emblem.

For older OS, you will need to hold down the Shift key while right clicking on the MP3 file. The option you will need to choose will be "Open file with...." instead. The rest of the steps will be as above.

Hope this answers your question.

Your music is in mp3 format and your music files are now being opened by a media player other than windows media player. Another media player has been downloaded and is now the default media player.
I do not recommend using regedit. The registry is not for users that don't have experience, and as a computer tech i have seen too many people foul up their machines by playing with the registry.
If you want to get rid of the other media player, simply remove it in add/remove programs and your music should automatically return to opening with windows media player.

This usually happens when you install new software that changes the default program used to open a file.

Quick fix:

click start, and then click on run.

type into the run box: regedit

do a search in the registry for .mp3 (cntrl f, type in .mp3)

delete the registry entry for .mp3 (delete the folder in the right window that says .mp3)

DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING ELSE!

close the registry window and go to your music folder.

Double click the MP3 like you are going to play it and it will ask you what you want to do with the file (I.e., what program do you want to open it with) Select windows media player from the list and you are all set.

Your probally downloaded another mp3 player like Real Player and it is now the base program that runs your mp3's i dont know how to change this but hopefully they should still play. I think if you click on them you can select open with and then choose the program and choose Windows media player, that is if you perfer Windows media player(i know i do)Good luck!

have you installed any new music programs? plus, depending on how you got the music on your computer, downloading or from actual cd's, it could differ. i know that cd's ripped to windows media player are automatically .wma files unless changed otherwise. so if you have been downloading music or something, they usually are .mp3 files. it all depends. if you need further clarification, just let me know. can't promise that i will be able to answer anything correctly though.

you have installed a new software the took the place of media player

don't worry, its easy to change them back

right click on any 'media file' and choose 'Open With' and if you have the option "Choose program", click it.

in the options choose "Windows Media Player'

and MAKE SURE you CHECK the option that says 'Always use selected program to open this type of file"

DONE.

It's a program tag. My computer did the same with my picture files. It's weird, but it still works, and it doesn't mean a worm has invaded your machine.
