I find it's very tough on people, either getting good insurance or being able to afford any at all, or a job that offers it! I think it's rotten that many people either take a job they do not like just for insurance or stay in a job for the same reason! What would be a good solution??

A single medical plan that covers everyone and is not controlled by corporations, for which users pay premiums according to their ability. That's the only sane and humane way to do it.

Eyeonthescreen: Why, if it doesn't work, does every country in the developed world have it, except the United States?

Private medical coverage, via insurance, does not work...it leaves out too many people who cannot afford it. Socialized medical coverage, via government programs, does not work...it promotes mediocrity in medical care. Business offered medical coverage does not work because it cuts heavily into earnings and passes additional costs on to the consumer and, again, not everyone can get it through their companies.

What's left? A mix of private, government, and business supported medical coverage. If government subsidized private and business medical coverage, that would lower premiums the insured and business would have to pay. The lower premiums would allow business and individuals to have access to insurance when before they could not afford it.

By keeping the insurance coverage in private hands for administration purposes, government, which has been known to not manage anything very well will be out of that picture. As a copayer, government would be investing in the nation's health and in the further development of new drugs, procedures, and so on.
