x+4(x+3)=17
multiply through the parenthesis.
x+ 4x + 12 = 17
subtract 12 from both sides.
x + 4x +12 -12 = 17 -12
x +4x = 5
combine like terms
5x =5
and didvide both sides by 5.
5x /5 = 5/5
x =1

4+3 =7 ,17-7=10, 10,divided by 2 =5, because there was 2=x's 5+4=9&5+3=8, 8+9==17. sound ok?

wow,looking at the other answers thats alot of work u would have had to do,but once again yahoo answers saves the day.even though i say ppl's answers look complicated heres mine "1+2+3 and then diviide by 10.55 which then u multiply by 5.78 since u know according to henrick's theory of alrighcatim if 2+6 =2.356 then 45x45.66 is always x "and in conclusion seeing that everybody else said that the answer is 1 my answer is also 1.thank u very much and please just take the answer and nothing else,lol.

in order to take the (x+3) out of parenthesis you need to change the sign.
x+4-x-3=17
then combine like terms : x's and numbers.
x's cancel out
+4-3 = 1
1=17
which means no solution to problem because x has been eliminated.
or maybe i just did it wrong....
