PC's can run for long amounts of time w/o being turned off. Unless there's some problem with the software you're just using a LOT of electricity

Other than the electric bill, as long as you have a UPS w/ power fluctuation protection, nothing. Doing this will actually increase the life of some of the parts on the computer, because turning on and off the power can cause more wear on the circuitry in the computer due to heating a cooling fatigue, where as leaving it on keeps them a constant temperature. I work in a computer lab and we leave our on all the time, just turning them off when were are closed for more than 24 hrs, to save on electricity, and we don't have any problems with them.

Some people say turn off your computer when not in use, others say leave it on. Having run networks with hundreds of computers for years, it has been my experience that the best thing to do is turn the monitor off, and leave the computer itself on. The reason is pretty simple.
Computers are electronic. Nearly all of the delicate, critical structures are solid state. Turning them on heats the circuits, causing expansion. Turning them off cools the circuits, causing contraction. Over time, repeated heating and cooling causes microscopic cracks, which widen, causing short circuits and broken circuits. Leaving the computer on 24/7 keeps the temperature at a more constant level. While there is some "wear and tear" to some parts associated with leaving the computer on, it is much less than the wear and tear of constant heating/cooling. All things considered, you're much better off leaving the computer on all the time, but shutting off the monitor to avoid power costs and burn-in.

Personally I dont think it is possible to leave the computer on 24/7. There are some updates that need rebooting for them to take effect. Also it just stands to reason that the more something is used the sooner it will wear out. Elaine

The only moving part is the fan in your power supply, the computer is usually 5 years old and obsolete before that wears out. Even if it does wear out, it cost about 30 bucks and ten minutes to swap out the whole power supply. leave it on if you want, turn it of if you want, doesn't matter much. I normaly turn mine off, my wife has had hers turned on for 3 years nonstop now.

So do I. The only thing that will happen is it will run up your electricity bill :) Oh, but if you have high speed internet, you may want to make sure that you have spyware and and antiviris, because it will always be running, therefore leaving you vulnerable.

NO, but if you leave it on you wear it down. If you turn it off and restart the computer will check itself for problems, and fix them.
and you will not get as many viruses.
