The New York Yankees only win so many games and are so good because they have millions of dollars for a payroll. I know that its about the talent in the players to come out and not the money they're given, but the only reason the mets are good this year is the money they got for Beltran, Wagner, etc. I am happy for the Marlins with half the payroll of the Yankees and still having an okay season. Do you think a salary cap is needed for baseball? I feel strongly for it.

The Yankees are rich because they have a winning team which fill the stands. They drew 4.2 million fans for home games this year. Their success has also landed them a rich TV contract.
I'm certain other teams could do what the Yankees have done. That is, buy the best players available. Many of their stadiums seat more than Yankee stadium - so why don't they do it?
I think they feel that having 1 or 2 stars on the team is enough to bring in fans and to make a profit. They want to win but don't have the guts to put their money where their mouth is.
Look at the Florida Marlins. They won the World Series and then got rid of most of the players that got them there because they didn't want to pay them any more money. Case in point.

You obviously have no clue about anything. You get what you pay for! The Yankees and the Mets combined sold about 7.5 million tickets this year and they have the most expensive tickets in the game. That means the fans are willing to pay this money because they want a better product. When you go shopping, and you have alot of money, do you buy the best product or a knock-off. Baseball is huge in New York and the fans want a winning product and are willing to pay whatever price for it. Did you even know that the owner of the Twins is the richest owner in baseball. Did you even know that The Boss puts his profit back into his team and not his pocket like the other owners. I could keep going on and on. But before you criticize, do some research.

Hey, teams beat the Yankees right. Also, the Yankees payroll is $200,000,000. The Marlins payroll is $15,000,000. Thats not even close to half. I know my Sox have about $100,000,000 and that the Cubs are about even. If one of the Chicago teams left, then the remaining team could have as much as the Yankees. That would never happen though.... I am perfectly happy with the Sox and Cubs no matter what their payroll is. At the end of the day, it doesnt matter what a teams payroll is, only if people enjoy watching them.

Let's be real you want the best team posible don't matter how much money u have to give up and if u have it why don't do it forget about salary caps cause that would simply hold back MLB cause it would make them like the rest of the sports in which the team are limited to certain amount of money. The thing is if was some other team nobody would care. I mean they are called the evil empire after all so why can't they get the best players there's no reason.

No doubt they need a salary cap. Either that or another team in New York City. Both of those teams rake in too much money (as shown by the fact that the two NY teams tied for the most wins. We should go back to the days of three New York teams and maybe up to four. How about the Jersey Marlins? It has a special ring to it

Need a salary cap like the one the NFL has. I'm a long-time Yankee fan, I was fan when they had Gene Michaels at short, and Mel Stollemeyer on the mound, but there is a need for a salary cap. If one is not put in place, it's going to be New York teams every year. The fact that the Mets drew 3.3 million and the Yankees 4.1 million fans into the ballparks only hurts the case for a salary cap.

I think that New York Yankees players get paid too much money just to play baseball. What some players on the Yankees make (like Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter) make in just one season, some people make in their lifetime.

Well personally, i don't think you can pay, and pay players and expect to be good.If you get a big ego guy with an other big ego guy theres going to be a problem. The best teams are well rounded. If you look at a soccer team Real Madrid, there stacked but a team like Manchester United have good players but work better as a team. So if teams want to throw money away on big name players i say be my guest.

most definatly!! I'm a Phillies fan, but teams like the yanks who charge over $40 a ticket are in it just for the players. you have other teams that charge less then 1/2 of that to draw fans and because of that they can not afford the big cap players. in my opinion, they need to reduce the saleries of the players (like someone really needs 40million to play ball- what about teachers, police officers, firefighters, etc) and maintain a solid even cap for the teams. give the profits back to the stadium and fans in some way.
