In my English class, we have to write a compare-contrast essay using the subject at a time method. I have chosen my idea already: Explorers of the past and present. I am a bit confused on a good topic sentence other than: The exploreres of the past and the present had many similarities and many dissimalarities... which in my opinion is too wordy. So I would appreciate any help on a topic sentence AND maybe 1 idea on how they contrast and compare. I believe all the explorers of past and present had a yearning to explore, not just for money...but whatever, just need help.

The explorers of past and present differ in ways such as motives and ... methods [i dunno] but are ... bound together by common .... ideals .... such as .....

i was putting .... where i was pausing to think..... it isnt all that good but might inspire

*tip.... for essays keep it formal.... if you don't use words such as I and me and stuff, it looks much more professional and stronger. Like instead of "I believe all explorers...." just say "All explorers" but then be careful with absolutes such as the word "all"... make sure to differentiate

Exploers if the past and present share many of the same qualities, yet use differnt methods.

Things to compare is the love of the unknown, in the past the west now it is space.
Methods that are the same is dynamite. They still use it to find gold, but a contrast would be they use sonar to find oil now where they has to use hand drills in the begining.
Todays exploers could still be called pioneers going where no one has traveled yet, in the past artic expodistions, now they are trying to reach mars.
Mode of transit has changed, oxcarts and wagans vs. autos, planes and rockets.
Have fun! Use anything and weverything you know. Good luck!

While much has changed for explorers over the centuries, much has remained the same.

If it were me I'd focus on how every explorer must necessarily stand on the shoulders of their predecessors in order to advance. What would have become of Lewis and Clark had there not been Columbus.
