Rama in Thailand is a King who is a god reincarnation in a story called Ramakian. Please see detail in the references below. Thais adopted and modified the original Indian Ramayana and called it Ramakian. Ramakian is commonly known in Thailand as a story in a traditional Thai play (old and traditional musical) or Khon. The characters wear beautiful costume and dance with the traditional Thai music. They also have characteristic movements.
It becomes the Kings' name, such as King Rama 1st to current 9th for the current Thai King's Dynasty. Rama is chosen to emphasize the connection between the King and God.
