I am going to ask a hypothetical question. It is the sort of question you may have trouble answering honestly, but I would like you to try.
It is akin to the question: if you were among the survivors of a shipwreck, in a lifeboat, would you work for the survival of the group, or would you be primarily concerned with your own survival. It would be hard to admit you would be selfish in this circumstance, so it is a hard question both to ask and answer.

Here is my question: if the country you are living in became over night a police state, would you submit to the martial law, or would you begin to work in the resistance?

Give it your best shot. Only you know if your answer is honest.

we talk a lot in my family about whether we will be like the franks or the einsteins. my own great grandfather fled europe's gathering storm - and his village was destroyed utterly by hitler's madness and family, catholic dissidents, were killed in auschwitz.

since i have had kids, i think i'll be more likely to save my kids and me. my husband resists this. i tell him - your people were walked to death - only his grandma survived in his family's clan in their tribe. my people engaged in active fleeing from an unstoppable force and survived.

and now, we are joined together and having to look at how will we respond to the greatest threat to freedom the modern world has known - george bush and his mass murdering cabal.

I would begin to work in the resistance. While it is possible to leave the country the question is then what happens if there is no escape? I would rather die fighting than going along with what is clearly not right.

that depends on the circumstances. if the government was doing it to take total and complete power then yes i would resist. but if it was because of terrorist or something that was done to the country then i would be OK with it as long as they do their jobs swiftly and bring to justice the perpetrators. i would also like to believe that i would chip in for the survival of the group.

I would submit to martial law for the time being but with an alternate plan of either fleeing or joining a resistance. So I guess it would be all three...........

I would do neither. I would leave the country. It's closer than we think.
