I need to get rid of some moles on my face and I have some uneven skin tone problems. I want to know if anyone knows of a good dermo doc that is black and possibly female. please people do not waste my time on why I want a black doctor. if you need to know it is because they can better treat and understand the problems of black skin, so it is not a racial thing ok/

At the black dermotologist store of course!!! (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

I would try phoning your local health or doctors association or referral program (may not be the excat wording where you come from, but something similar). You may not necessarily get a black dermo, but I bet they at least know someone with more knowledge about black skin and the problems they have. You could even ask your GP about it...he/she may know someone.

And to those who are saying it is a racist thing, I think you are wrong. All doctors specialize in something, or because of their demographic see more of one thing than the other. All lawyers go through the same "training" but what they end up doing for the next 30-50 years lends to thier specialty. Some hairdressers do more haircoloring than cutting or vise versa, although they all receive the same initial training (oh and I used to be a hairdresser, and black hair dressers were WAY better at doing black hair than others...they deal with it not only with clients but everyday with their own hair) . All mechanics take a similar course, but then some work on Hondas for 30 years and some work on Fords...wouldn't they guy that worked on Fords for 30 years know a bit more about Fords?

And there are courses and seminars that doctors can elect to take to know something better than their general training provides..Its called specialization.

Good luck on the search.

Well, the fact of the matter is all dermatologists receive the same training. To assume that a black dermatologist is going to know and understand the issues with "black" skin over a white or asian dermatologist is silly. That's like suggesting that a white doctor will only understand prostate cancer better than a black doctor or a gay doctor will only understand HIV issues better than a heterosexual doctor. That said - you're best bet is to look up local doctors in a hospital directory or through your insurance provider - although ethnicity is generally not a selectable attribute when searching for a physician (see aforementioned comment).

It is a racial thing - the same as it would be if I said I only wanted a white doctor.
