No, Financial questions aside, being an Independent allows Notre Dame the flexibility to schedule games against its many traditional rivals (USC, Michigan, Michigan St., Purdue, Navy, Boston College). It also allows them to play a national schedule which is consistently one of the toughest in the nation. While there are ocassional cupcakes on the schedule, like North Carolina or Nevada, and while Notre Dame would be a good fit for either the Big Ten (geographically, plus many shared rivalries) or the Big East (their home for all other sports), as this year's student section shirt indicates, Notre Dame is all about "Tradition", and they have a tradition of being one of the longest standing (if not the longest) independents in college football.

If ND were to join the Big Ten, they would become just another upper middle of the conference team. The same thing happened to Penn State when they joined the Big Ten.
If ND joins the Big East, they will probably fare better.
I really do not see an advantage to ND joining a conference. They would immediately lose a major piece of revenue, due to being reqiired to share TV revenue with the other schools in a conferenae.

They make WAY too much money being an independent. They have a TV contract so they are on TV every week (depending on where you live) because they dont have to split it with anybody else. If they were to join the Big East they wouldnt get to play Michigan and if they joined the Big 10 when would we see the USC rivalry? Just stay independent, TV time = more money = more recruits = better team.

I'd like to see them in the big 10, however all of their other sports programs are in the big east. They should not be allowed to split like that. Besides their bowl eligibility can knock another big east team out of a bowl game. Therefore they should be tied to the conference financially.

The only advantage to joining a conference in football is for exposure. Their prestige gives them that, so it's not necessary.

They make more money being independent. For chrissakes, they've got a contract with nbc to televise all their home games, and all their road games are gonna be on espn or abc
