Typically profit margins are poor in the food industry. Salaries tend to be lower....but work is steady - no one stops grocery shopping.
Sorry can't comment on your specific situation but it does not look bad from here.
Why not look at starting a part-time business. Read Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki for insights into self-employment.

Considering the retail industry is notorious for low wages I think you are on a very good rate especially when you consider the type of awful money nurses, firemen & ambulance people earn in jobs that save lives.

Depend what area your in and city/town I used to work for 3 and I know I was lower paid than my collegues who worked for the same company cause they were in a different Band as they were in city and I was in a town.

too be on 22pa is good for a food shop, i used work as`a head chef & only got 18 pa , stop worring
