Many younger ones seek mentors, particularly if they can't talk to their parents.
Others are savvy enough to know where the money and the power reside and wrongly think they can get a piece of that action.

Actually, there are probably 16 year olds on here, right now, talking about sex, with older people present in the forum. I wouldn't be surprised if some 'public figures' were on here as well.
There are several 'real' issues with this situation.
1) People who are older (i.e. adults) have a responsibility to demonstrate adult-like behaviors around people who are significantly younger. Younger people don't 'have' to be as responsible, even though they should. The burden is on the adult.
2) Young people should be allowed to make mistakes that they don't have to pay for the rest of their lives, as a part of the process of growing up. Adults should know better, even if they behave like they don't.
3) The Internet provides a certain level of 'anonymity' and detachment that sometimes gives people (of all ages) a false feeling of safety and security. You never know who might be listening, or what intentions they might have.
The bottom line is, be very careful what you say on the Internet.

michael o,
Wisdom, hopefully. There is a lot of experience in people that are older, mikey. Son. You little rugrat. Peewee.
Just kidding. Some people actually do want to help people, and some actually help. If the older person starts asking for porno or other weird stuff, then you know it's not on the level.
If you are referring to the Senator, that's why those laws are supposed to be protecting the younger members of staff. They have actual buisness with the givernment and it's a great thing for young people to get started if they are interested in that kind of thing.
But if there is anything of another reason to be, it will go south. I figure the government is hiding a lot more than just one guy. I'll bet it's more than that!

I don't think it is EVER appropriate to blame the victiem in a case like this.
Maybe the 16 year old thought he was in luv with Foley, maybe the 16 year old was just horney, maybe he was not thinking about it. Maybe he was flattered at the attention or maybe he just didn't know how to say no without putting his college hopes in jeoparody (most teenage pages do the job to get a letter of reccomendation for college). Maybe he was legitimately interested in Foley, maybe he has an older guy fetish, who knows.
It doesn't matter why the 16 year old did it, what matters was that is was very sleezy of Foley to take advantage of his much younger employees.

Most people hide homosexuality. At least early on. But sexuality is what those 2 have in common...publicly or secretly...it's wrong because of the age difference.... but society has forced homosexuals underground and then are suprised wen they re-appear. If they were accepted in part or in whole perhaps they would feel comfortable expressing themselves openly and wouldn't have to resort to unhealthy relationships...
So what I am saying is...it's just as much our fault as it is his...
Why do you think there are so many priests in the same situation? Forced into celebacy is unnatural. Hiding homosexual tendency with the frock. And everyone is so shocked when they discover the problem.

have you ever met any girls or women? If so did you pay attention to them at all? I suggest going and talking to a few. Once you've done that then you will not likely understand why they might want to do this, but you will understand that doing that is exactly the kind of thing that a lot of girls and women are interested in.

what are you talking about?
Sex is a normal topic of discussion. Sure, you probably wouldn't disscus it with your granparents, but it is a healthy topic with friends. Maybe this 16 year old doesn't have anyone to talk with at home... is the 16 yr old you?

Kids can be flattered, attracted, confused, afraid of retribution if they don't play along...
I say this as a woman who had a crush on a teacher.
