I have been dating this guy for almost 2 years, on and off. We lived in the same city for 1 yr. I moved away and he continued to call me, just as friends. We would see each other every month as more than friends. I eventually plan to move back but not sure when. We decided a few months ago that we didn't want to be with anybody else. We had a plan to move in together as soon as I moved back. I'm still in the process of saving money and all that good stuff. In these past month we get into fights that escalate into us breaking up. Right now, we're in one. It's always the same thing. It's usually me saying, "we should end this." It lasts for a few days then its like nothing. Every time it hurts, it feels like it's for real and I'm getting sick of it. I really want to let him go. I just don't know how. Last thing he said to me..."I love you very much but we aren't as happy as we used to be." he gets so irritated he turns his phone off, won't answer until we cool down.

Sounds like you've already decided you don't want to be with him anymore. The best thing you can do for him and to respect you all's relationship is be honest and upfront. Tell him exactly what you said here. The fights are hurting you and I'm sure they are hurting him. You all can't keep doing this.

You don't want to be with someone that you chronically fight with.
Just tell him it's time for us to end our relationship and start seeing other people - then do it!
