No. However, two of the stars in the constellation Southern Cross point towards the south pole, but the constellation itself is nowhere near the south pole.

No, the North Star is unique to the northern hemisphere. The southern hemisphere has a completly different nightscape which receives far less attention than the nothern hemisphere (not as many people live down there)

No not really...there might be a faint star close to the South Pole but I don't think anyone named it. The constellation called the Southern Cross is close though( not really).
BTW the north star was not always there and it won't be again in a few thousand years. In about 12000 years Vega will be the North Star(don't hold your breath)

All the stars are different in both hemispheres. There is no such thing as "Southern Star", but there is the Southern Cross. The long axis points to the South (cutting the horizon).

No, we don't have a star at the south celestial pole. It makes setting up a telescope for tracking a lot harder. We do, however, make up for it by having magnificent globular clusters, the two Magellanic clouds, the southern cross etc, etc. So it is worthwhile taking the extra time to set up.
It would have been nice to have a pole star, though.

Everyone is right. There is no South star worthy of the name. There are no especially bright stars near the South celestial pole, and furthermore, there will not be one for 13,000 years ( see precession)

The sky is littered with stars. There has to be a star close enough to straight above the south pole. The question is if it is a bright star, that anyone would notice.
