no you dont have to pay for it. go to your internet home page and type in YAHOO MESSENGER in your search bar. then click GET IT NOW or DOWNLOAD and follow the instructions. most of them you just have to click NEXT and OK. actually that might be it.
if you have dsl it should take about 5-6 minutes total. if you dont i would say about an hour or even longer. ( dial up sucks )
