She didnt do a Catscan, MRI, or even an X-Ray. She talked to me longer about quiting smoking than anything else. I know that there is something wrong with my back. My mother-n-law is a nurse practioner and she thinks that something is out of sync. I just feel like this doctor didnt have the time of day for me and frankly didnt care.

i have been fighting back problems for about 4 years now....noone would take me serious because they say i am too young to have these problems. I don't think age has anything to do with it if the problems are there!! but anyways, you should go to a different dr. until you find one that will take you serious and will actually help you!!! Don't give up, alot of people lie about having back problems because they are hard to diagnose so Dr's tend to not believe anyone any more. Just keep going to different dr's until one will listen and help!!!

Good Luck!!!

Did she do an X-ray, CT or MRI? If she did, and still says you can work, then probably they were negative for anything serious...If she didn't, and you feel more should be done, then by all means, get a second opinion!! I am in the medical field & realize that so many people use "back pain" as a generic cop out for drugs or a reason to not work.

Ask your doctor to give you a referral to a specialist in orthopedics. That's exactly what you need to do. I had a doctor as well that did nothing til I asked around and found out all I needed was a referral to an orthopedics doctor and they found out what was happening. Turns out I have several types of spinal diseases and the doctor said if I had waited a little longer I'd have been in a wheel chair a lot quicker than I will now. I still have problems but they're not as bad now that they've been fixed for the most part.
Good luck

Go to another doctor. They should do x-rays and if you have sever pain such as my husband has they should order an MRI. They can give you pain pills that actually work to kill the pain. I know because I too have back pain and can work. I just have to take pills every 4 hours to ease the pain. But you don't want to undergo back surgery if at all possible because it hasn't been perfected yet. My husbands doctor said he won't do surgery until he is in a wheel chair. That way if it helps good but if not he would remain in the chair. Good luck to you.

Hi there !

If the Doctor has opined that you can work, then go by her advise..
The reason that you have asked this question in this column induces a feeling that.."you dont have trust and faith in your doctor"...! Then the options are only two :
1. Get a second opinion from another "good" consultant..whom you trust !
2. Stop consulting somebody whom you dont trust !

Agree with me ??

Best wishes..and a speedy recovery too..
