I only burn 100% soy wax candles now. They are clean burning and emit hardly any soot and therefore are healthier to breathe. Paraffin candles contain a petroleum by-product and release toxins and soot in the air. I buy mine online. They're all handmade & poured and smell great. They also burn cooler so they last longer. They burn completely to the bottom of the jar....no wasted wax either.

Yankee Candle is the only way to go. They really make a whole room smell wonderful, and burn for so long. Yes, they are pricey. However, when you buy cheaper ones, often they don't smell when they are actually burning. I've lucked out here and there and found some other brands dirt cheap at places like Christmas Tree Shops, and even just the supermarket which only cost a few dollars and still manager to smell strongly, but I think overall as a brand Yankee Candle wins.

Have you tried the candles they sell at White Barn or Bath and Body? Their candles have more fragrance put into them than their competitors. They even sell some that have 4 wicks...more scent is given off. If you want to make them last for a long time, I would recommend putting them in the freezer for a few days. Unless of course they are in glass...it could crack when you light the candle. Currently, their fall fragrances are out...pumpkin, pear, and apple. Personally, I love the apple. Another favorite is spiced cider. If you can find it, the ocean shore is great. My friend loves the vanilla coconut and Guava passionfruit candles. It does not take long before 1-2 rooms will smell wonderful and inviting.

I buy my candles from a company called "Buckeye Lights", based out of Ohio. They are 100% soybean candles, which is awesome because they dont have smoke (unless you blow them out, but they have a lid, to extinguish them with). Any other candle will have smoke (whether or not you are able to see it) and will evenutally leave a black mark on the ceiling above where it is burning of the carbon deposits which it ommits. The soybean candles burn clean (no smoke or carbon), and burn totally evenly down the container/jar (so no middle burning/melting only), which is again awesome because you dont have all of this wax left on the sides of the jar, it all burns away.
There are alot of soybean candle brands out there, just look around your area or do a search online for 'soybean candles'. The ones I get are in a fairly nice sized jar (like a canning jar) and burn for an average fo abotu 40 hours, and smell WONDERFUL! This company works specifically on scents that last and smell strongly (although they do have some that are light and airy smelling as well). They sell for about $6.95 each I believe (unless you buy a case at a time).
Yankee candles are good too, although EVERYTIME i get one, I am always bummed out that they dont burn nicely...there is always alot fo actual wax candle part left in the jar when the wick is gone, and tha to me is a waste of money, especially when Yankee is so darn expensive to begin with.

Mia Bella candles are the best if you want one candle to make the whole house smell good! If burned properly, they will burn over 180 hours and they triple scent and double wick their candles, so they burn evenly and smell great all the way to the bottom of the jar. You are more than welcome to visit my website and check them out if you'd like.

Partylite. You have to have a party at your house to get them, but they are unquestionably the highest quality candles you can get, and they smell fabulous! They will burn down to nothing but the little metal clip that holds the wick in place.
My favorite scent is Pomegranate/Pineapple. In the cold weather season, I also like to use Cinnamon Stix and Ginger Pumpkin scents...Yummy!
