Calgary is a nice enough place to live, but as noted, there is a housing shortage right now. You might be able to find a room to rent in a private home.
Also, you will need to have the proper documentation in order to live in Canada ... i.e. Visa or Immigration.

A word of caution: b/c of the population explosion from the job boom, there are quite a number of ppl having to live in homeless shelters even though they have good paying jobs. There isn't enough affordable housing to go around for everyone. If you don't have an apartment or house lined up before you get there, DON'T GO!
