No. Different people ask different questions for different reasons. Of course, if somebody asks you who the President of Austria is, they're being kind of lazy. But those are rather rare.
A lot of questions are essay questions. This is where this site's value truly comes out. Be it in economics, psychology, philosophy, the arts, there's a good chance you'll find someone with not only knowledge, but the expertise to actually put it together.
Other questions are technical in nature, but are not easily answered by a google search. Questions about best products to buy, etc... You tend to get more neutral answers, answers from people who have been there.
Sometimes you're just doing an opinion poll, really. You want to know what people think about a particular subject.
Other users are just instigating on-line wars. The creationist / atheist debates, Liberal/Conservatives in the politics forum, etc... I personally don't see the point, but they seem to be enjoying themselves.
Others want life advice, the kind of stuff a search won't give you. Do you think my bf/gf is being faithfull? Should I tell my husband/wife I cheated, etc...? It's like having 10 newspaper advice columnists take on your question.
Personally, I like this site because as an aspiring writer, it's a great exercise to answer a few of the long-winded questions before I get to work, to get the creative juices going and I like to impart my knowledge when I can. It also takes me back to my university days, where you had to put your knowledge together in a neat little answer.
So lots of people ask and respond for different reasons, and what's being done is more complex than it would appear at first. In a lot of cases, what you say is true, but for the majority of cases, that doesn't work. Plus, unless you're looking for a very specific fact (Like the President of Austria as above), humans are still better at gauging what it is you want to know, and what the angle of your question is, than search engines are.

Actually. This question could have been answered by a simple search as well.

Or at least, you could see how many other people have asked a question along these lines :)
