I have chosen the right RAM and all that stuff... there is one made by Corsair which is £90 and one made by play.com which is £70... is there anything significantly different between own brands and brand names?

The other users are right, usually it is just price, but to be absolutely sure I could use a link to each of the specific sticks in question. If you could post or email me that I could tell you for sure. Hi I tried to e-mail you back with my answer but it said your e-mail was unconfirmed, anyway I looked at the two and I think you can safely go with the inexpensive one.

Nothing at all!

There isn't a difference between a name brand RAM and a non-name brand RAM. They are manufactured the same way, by construction.

The only thing that is different is the price, this is because you are paying for a well-known name brand; versus, one that is not well-known , or people don't know about.

It breaks down to trust, "which brand do you feel confident in, and have trust for?". Generally, i myself go with the name brand RAM(s), just because i always have some sort of feedback that makes me secure. Whereas, non-name brand hardware / RAM might not have any feedback or reviews, so my trust is placed on everyone elses experience in general with that particular manufacturer / company.

some sites i use are:

(1) newegg.com
(2) tigerdirect.com
(3)overstock.com

well corsair is a manufacture.... Play.com is a reseller. Its cheaper electronics.....

So it may have higher impurities in the conductor, have lower heat tolerance, little to no warranty, and next week that company may not exist to even service the warranty

In a word...PRICE! When comparing make sure that you are looking at RAM with the same capacity, ie not comparing a 1GB set with a 512 set!
