Either put up with it or be honest and tell her it bothers you.

Your friend should't be so self-absorbed. She should be able to be there for you as a friend as you have been for listening to all her whining. If she continues to whine for a few days, tell her that you don't feel like shes been a good friend to you because she missed your bithday, always makes you listen to her complaints and you've always been there for her. And if she say's you didn't have to listen to her complain in the first place, say 'you would have gotten mad if I didn't! face the truth'.
Or if you want to be mean give hints that you're tired of hearing her whine, like when she is complaining to you say something like "uh-huh, yeah, okay, that's good...wait what were you saying?' Act dull whenever she complains. Act like you don't care because you're tired of it. Don't even invite her to your next birthday and say 'you were going to skip it for the spa anyway'. But this is the mean way to do it.
The nice way and truthful way you should do is tell her how you feel. That you don't think she's been a little more, caring to everyone else but herself.

People who are always complaining about something or someone aren't happy with themselves. So all they can find to talk about is something negative, and they wish for others to feel down and miserable like they do. I suggest surrounding yourself with more positive people. I know it may be hard being that she's your best friend, but it sounds like her attitude may rub off on you, and I'm sure you don't want that.

if she ´s always talking about herself then you must tell her cause otherwise if she doesnt change she does not deserve you as her friend.
Try to be honest with her and see what she answer you...
a friendship is a thing of two persons in equal conditions ...you are not supposed to be her therapist..

well i think she is self centered and if all she cares about is herself she doesnt need friends... but if you care about her that much then talk to her and if she takes it the wrong way then she doesnt need you... take it from someone who knows talking is the best thing for any kinda of relationship...hope all goes well

She sounds way too needy and self involved. You need to branch out and find some friends who add to your life not drain from it.
