Both sound nice so it would depend on the mood I wanted to set. For example the cabin- to me this means romance and solitude as well as an escape from the civilized world. There may not be any phone service (oh oh), no cable/satellite either (ouch!) but there would be time for the 2 of you to spend together alone and you can talk etc.
Now on the other hand a hotel can also be romantic (if you pick the right one for you) plus it has all the modern convinces ie phone. cable. fax, Internet, pool, workout room (in some), spa, sauna etc. It depends on how busy/ active you want to be. Or just stay in your room and order room service for 2?
So in my opinion I would stay in either based on what 'we' were looking for (and as long as my TiVo was recording). HaHa.

I'd love to spend a night in the cabin on a lake.

Depends on my mood...a hotel is very comfortable and convenient but there's nothing like getting away from it all and a night in the country.........the hotel.

A cabin, for sure. Though without good company, neither would do. And with good company, anything would do.
