I am 16 and I have a hard time carrying casual conversation. There are often long pauses and usually I have no idea what to say. I'm a quiet and reserved person around people I don't know very well, and often times when I see someone around my age, I'll avoid them because I never can think of anything to say which makes it awkward. I'm close with my two sisters and I can talk fine with them, but with people I don't know it's hard for me to think of something to say. My mind always draws a blank. I don't know what to do. Help!

Think to yourself as if you were talking to your sisters when you carry a conversation... don't think to yourself as if you're going to say something dumb... usually girls your age think they're going to say something dumb so they rather not say anything at all and that when your mind draws a blank. Don't ever just give yes or no answers... even if to start a conversation, you have to ask the same question they asked you, but word it a bit different!

well im 16 also and the funny thing is im the exact opposite. i am only really quiet around people that i dont know. i am a really funny person though and i enjoy making people laugh especially when i notice that they are down in the dumps. just try to do what i do and start a conversation its the best way to meet others. and your not alone when it comes to not knowing what to say it happens all the time. awkward silences are normal just take you time and talk about anything and you'll ge the conversation rolling again.

The best question to start a conversation would be how are you.

Then talk about anything like what they doing today or weather or start by telling them what you did. Or about someone else what they did. Come on, you are girl and girls are good at gossiping. Thats how everyone talks.

Don't be shy because you have to change yourself and noone can change you for you. Don't think about what the other person will think as it doesn't matter what they think. Its your life and be the way you want

I used to be like that too. But in like the past 2 years I've changed a lot. But maybe you should try to find similarties with people your talking too. Like if you have a certain hobby or favorite sports team. If not you could talk about something funny that happened to you lately.

Relax Is the first thing I would tell you to do .

Second It Is not uncommon for a woman your age to be quiet and some men will find that attractive.

Be yourself,If quiet then thats who you are and that Is ok

Ask what things the other person likes and when he or she tell you for example he or she likes tennis. Than start to talk about tennis. Like..........How long you been playing

When that is going weak ask.... What you like about tennis......

When the tennis thing is going dead........ask if there's any other thing that person like. Than do the same thing over. Hopefully the conversation leads to another thing..........

when you are scared of something, don't run away from it, face it till you overcome it, thats what i do. if you're afraid of talking to people, try doing it the first time, then second, then finally you're over it!

Practice. That is pretty normal for your age.
