What color should I get? Should I get a male or female? What should I name him/her? How old should they be (cat/kitten)? (I have owned one before, but I'm adopting a new one now and I'm not sure what to get, all the cats at the shelter are so adorable...) Also, I am 13 (very responsible for animals, BIG animal lover), and I lost my cat 3 weeks ago. She left her 1 1/2 year old orange tabby son and he REALLY needs a friend, he's very depressed. What would work best?

If you've already got a male, you might want to get a female (but get her spayed, of course) Sometimes two males can be competitive and territorial with each other. Color, age, etc. is really a matter of personal preference! I often go for cats that are a little older, because most people adopt kittens and the older ones are often left behind so I feel sorry for them. But they all need homes, so it doesn't really matter. Go with the one that looks like he/she really likes you !

I'm sorry you lost your other cat.

I am sorry you lost your cat. You are doing the right thing by going to the shelter. Look at them all and see which one speaks to you. The cat that I picked stuck his paw out of the cage and swatted at me as I walked by. He has been a wonderful friend for two years now. I wish you good luck. It may take a while for your cats to become friends. Have patience.

there is no way of choosing a color before you gointo the shelter and just waitto have a connection with one. there will be one litlle cat who you will just feel for and love, and that's the one you should get. name it what you think when you see it for the first time.

I love orange tabbys!!! Get a kitten so that he/she will get used to you at an early age. Bathe her often so that he/she won't mind when you do it at a later time.

If you get a male cat, get him fixed, a fixed cat doesn't tend to wander as much & he'll not be chasing girls & spraying everything in sight either!
