I DISAGREE WITH THE PREVIOUS POST...FIRST OFF...THE TRAFFIC ON THE BRIDGE IS HEAVIEST AROUND 8 AM AND 6 PM BECAUSE OF COMMUTERS. SECONDLY, THERE IS USALLY ALWAYS FOG IN THE MORNING WHICH RUIN THE BEAUTIFUL VIEW AND AT NIGHT IT'S STILL NICE, BUT NO WHERE NEAR AS NICE AS DURING THE DAY.

MAKE SURE YOU CHECK OUT BOTH OBSERVATION AREAS, THE ONE COMING INTO SAN FRANCISCO IS THE MOST SCENIC, IT'S THE LAST EXIT BEFORE GETTING ON THE BRIDGE TOWARD SAN FRANCISCO.

WAY TOO FAR TO WALK.

We were just there a couple of weekends ago. It is almost 5 miles to pier 33. Even farther if you want to walk across the bridge.

By car - only 5 to 10 minutes. Bridge traffic is horrible basically all the time. If your going to sightsee - then go see the bridge early in the morning (before 10am) or in the evening (after 7pm) and then you can spend all day at the Piers.

It is not too far to walk. I once walked from Coit Tower to the Golden Gate Bridge, which is further than from Pier 33. It did take a few hours though - but the walk was lovely!

About 3 miles; 15-25 car minutes.

Yes, see the bridge in midday, other fog city. Under the south end of the bridge there's a neat place called West Point (whoever named it was hungover). From down there you'll have insider views of the bridge and downtown. Get there by driving thru the Presidio. Just ask how when you're on Lombard St. and again when in the Presidio itself. Check YAHOO directions. Trust me, it's great. No coffee shops and few people. If you want me to send you fotos, write to
