First intelligent question I've seen today regarding this. Anyone watch Hardball last night? Tony Perkins from the odious Family Research Council sat right there and told an outrageous lie, which he was called on the carpet for later by following analysts. He said that studies have proven that homosexuals are more apt to be pedophiles than heterosexuals. That's not only patently untrue but all it did was reinforce any thinking person's opinion that these fanatics never shrink from lying in the name of "moral family values" and God.

As far as Foley goes, it was common knowledge among his colleagues that he was gay. I think he made the statement on the advice of his attorney - they pretty much knew that was going to be huge. He voted against gay marriage to help keep his orientation out of focus with the voting public. He can't come out and say he's a pedophile - that's compromising his defense.

I'm encouraged that most news announcers are making a point to say specifically that sexual orientation has nothing to do with pedophilia. Ask 5 out of 10 young women who were assaulted and/or sexually abused when children, they won't have any problem telling you it goes both ways.

Because sources in Florida and in DC have known for years that he is gay, that is not up for debate. Plus all the boys he talked to were old enough to consent to sex with him, so its not like we're talking about a pedophile here. I have a bigger issue with the age difference (52 vs 16) and the fact that Foley was in a position of power over these teens then the fact that it was teens. Teenagers, gay or straight, like sex and a 16 year old can consent to it without it being any of my business.

He's attempting to hide or provide an excuse for his behavior, same thing with him checking into the alcohol rehab...he's on the run and trying to throw out any form of distraction he can think of that might either garner him sympathy or provide a "reason" for his actions short of openly admitting he is a pedophile.

Hang him out to dry.

He can get away with the gay card but not the pedophile one.

Pedophiles and gays are two totally different things.

He wants gays to come to his rescue. It wont happen. For starters, gays are not natural pedophiles, contrary to what some of the igorami on yahoo claim. Most pedophiles are straight males, not gays.

a trapped rat will gnaw off his own foot to get away

the gay card is to hide the pedophile card...if he admitted his interest in underageboys then he would go down in flames

fry the ******* its hard enough growing up without parasites like this abusing their position

It's a diversionary tactic. He is trying to incite homophobic prejudices in the hope that everyone will forget that he actually broke the law.

It was well known for quite a while that he was gay.
What bothers me is that he wont be mature. and tries to blame being an alcoholic for his actions.
Being gay is not an issue, being too weak to keep himself from being immoral is.

Yep. Better to be a gay republican than a pedophile republican. I have to wonder who is paying for his alchohol treatment? You know folks, elected officials get health benefits for life, and you pay for it.

I have to wonder if the republican party is giving him money to say he's gay. Hmmm.
