Welcome to 2006. It's a very difficult world out there where they are keen to train people up in jobs yet there doesn't seem to be jobs available for young people no matter how hard working they are (believe me, I know personally). What's worse is that house prices are so high that it's impossible for first-time buyers to get on the ladder.
I think the problem is partially down to the fact that older workers are being made to work past the age that they would retire normally at because otherwise they couldn't afford to care for themselves in old age. But also, many jobs are going abroad where there is cheaper labour (or are being given to people from abroad who will accept a lower wage). And then you've got people who have a bad record but get everything handed to them on a plate because they get the support from prison/social work groups.
I don't know why they say that things are easier today that years gone by because at least twenty years ago, there were jobs for those who needed and wanted them.

Studying and landing employment are only loosly related.
It's good that your sons know how to follow the steps of opening a book, absorbing knowledge and then applying it, however finding a job requires different skills.
For starters, finding jobs on public sites is not a good idea, by the time a job is posted publically it means 2 things, first nobody that works for this co. has recommended their friends or family and secondly, thousands of people are now viewing the same job boards.
One trick to landing a job is tapping the hidden job market. This is done by networking with friends, Family, old school mates, join a club/organization and network there, do some volunteer work.
Secondly, people skills are not necessarily the same skills that your sons used to graduate in their fields of study. They would probably do to visit a local employment centre to obtain training in salesmenship, not to sell products, but to sell themselves.
If they do these things, they will end up with the jobs of their dreams.

It is one thing to go home and get some help. Depending on how long he has been with you should tell you a few things. Since he appears to only think it worth $50 dollars to stay with you and feed, bath, and care for the two boys with mowing the lawn every once in a blue moon I would say it is time he found his own pad to live in. And who has the boys? If he has them all the time he should not be helping out his ex wife gone ga-ga over another man before she left him. She should be the one who is helping him out money wise with the kids including food, clothes and so on to take care of the lil ones. Why support her if she left in the first place. He also needs to know that this should be only temporary and he should be spending his money on the needs of his boys not treating them to every little thing that I call a treat.

Sorry, but someone is not being truthful-- either you or them. Companies do not routinely hire drug addicts instead of college educated individuals.
They need to find entry level positions, even if they dont pay well to establish a work history and move up from there. People who work hard and have the background neccessary succeed, with perseverence.

I find it hard to believe two such qualified people get passed over for "addicts and alcoholics". Perhaps they are setting their sights too high. Many people start at the bottom even with a degree. If they are that good they will raise rapidly.

my sister can't find work either.. she tells our parents that she's looking very hard for jobs, but in reality she applies to maybe one place every few months.. are you certain they're looking as hard as they claim they are?
do they play any online games like World of Warcraft? if so, then I bet they're not really interested in finding jobs because online games are a fulltime job in themselves.. maybe that's what they're doing all night on the computer instead of looking for jobs.. that's something to think about..
at any rate, I bet they aren't really looking for jobs all night like they claim they are.. something is not right if they're really getting passed up for addicts and alcoholics.. I think they're playing you for a fool.. you need to get tough with them and say "move out or start paying rent"

Not sure why they cannot find work; however, tell them they have 30 days to become roomates somewhere else and then the can split THAT bill and share THAT refridgerator.

Yeah, boot 'em out. That;s jsut plain ridiculous. They are using you as a crutch. I say kick the crutch out from under them and force them to walk on their own.

They're playing you because they don't realize that it's against their interests.
Kick them out. They'll be happier once they realize it's better that way.
