not a direct quote from me but I hope this helps
"Question
I am six weeks pregnant and I am suffering terribly with constipation. Everyone has advised Fybogel, which I have tried, but it hasn't worked. What else can I do?
Answer
Constipation is common during pregnancy due to the effect of progesterone on the smooth muscle in the bowel. The most important thing is to ensure that you are getting enough regular exercise, drinking plenty of fluids and eating well.
Fybogel is safe to take, but as you've found it is not always effective. You might find that other dietary changes would be better in your case. Prunes and apricots are both very helpful in treating constipation (dried or stewed) and at the same time they are rich in calcium and iron. Try to avoid processed foods and especially those containing lots of sugar, and eat more wholemeal bread, potatoes, and fresh fruit and vegetables.
You may be drinking plenty of water already, but it is probably worth saying that it is wise to avoid coffee and tea, as these are actually dehydrating and so unhelpful in the treatment of constipation.
If you are not exercising regularly, it would be a good idea to start to do so. Swimming, brisk walking and yoga are forms of exercise that are particularly suitable for pregnancy and, as well as improving your bowel habit, they will also ensure that you remain fit for the duration of your pregnancy.
If, despite these strategies, you need further help with constipation, glycerine suppositories are also safe to use in pregnancy.
Yours sincerely
Dr Joanne Lee, GP"

Why do U want to use suppositories ? ESPECIALLY being
pregnant...That does not seem healthy, unless a doctor told you
to use them for constipation. Or your afraid to gain weight. If that
is the case, you will be depriving your baby of precious nutrients
it needs to grow and be healthy. Take prenatal vitamins, and
make sure you eat right.
