Ovulation (egg) occurs about 14 days AFTER the first day of your period. No, you normally cannot get pregnant during your period, but be very careful because some women spot just before ovulation (caused by a surge of estrogen), and if it is mistaken as the period, you could definitely get pregnant then.
Yes, it can be pretty messy. My husband and I do it all the time during my period, and it doesn't bother us, but I don't think we did before being together for a couple of years.

Having sex on your period u r still at risk of getting pregnant because the egg could still be in your body. I belive its a week before and a week after your period is the highest chance of getting pregnant but check with your a doctor or planned parenthood they can give u confidential advice and explain it better. And u r on your period so obviously things are going to be messy but alot of people do it wether they want to admit it or not. Use condoms.. in a tub, shower or pool and u wont even notice that much. Most women are more sexually horny when they are on there period too so if people say eww gross yea it can be if u look at it that way but alot of people do. And most men dont worry about it or think anything of it if they are mature and if u r in a serious relationship. I will give credit to men that alot of them are understanding on alot of those things if they are mature.. and that is they key word mature :) ... you also need to think too that having sex on your period is higher risk not only for pregnancy but for STDs like Aids and Hepitits and any other. So always becareful and use condoms and i would do some google research on STDs and how u can get them and the details and symptoms coz u wont believe how many people in the world have them and dont even know it or dont care and just spread it around. So stay safe. take care.

It sounds to me like you are too young to be having sex in the first place if you don't already know about this. Not to mention the fact that if you are worried about getting pregnant you need to use some form of birth control, at least condoms and don't let the boy tell you he doesn't like them. It's YOU who will have to deal with 9 months of pregnancy and then the rest of your life of parenting...not him.
However, you can get pregnant anytime you have sex. It all depends on when you ovulate. My best friend not only got pregnant while she was on her period, but it was her first time ever to have sex. (That was 20 years ago)
It can definitely get messy. But not necessarily. It all depends on how heavy your flow is when you have sex. And as for sex during your period stopping pain...It doesn't work for me, but I know some women who swear by it.
Don't listen to your friends about sex. Go to WebMD.com and research it. There is some great information there and it's all put in simple terms that anyone can understand.

You can still get pregnant during your period, it's just less likely. Sperm can survive for up to a week, and some women produce eggs at odd times, or haven't shed the old one yet.
It can get quite messy, but I just lie on a towel - helps with my cramps actually. Not gross at all.

Ok the chances of getting pregnat whilst menstruating are slim but if you dont want to get pregnant dont risk it.
Does everything get bloody when you have sex?
depends how heavy your flow is to be honest. During sexual arousal the blood is taken to others area to make your labia and uterus swell ready for potential orgasm so the flow kinda stops. On the heaviest days there may be some small amount of blood but not loads. And if you have an orgasm it can help your period pain loads- well it does mine!

Actually, you can get pregnant. Here is an artical that I was reading..
"What if my highly fertile days fall into my menstruation period. Can I still get pregnant?
YES - There have been many cases when the woman is fertile during her menstruation period. Women of one tribe in Africa for some religious reasons are having intercourse only during their menstruation and they still have children. If our report shows that your highly fertile day falls into menstruation it means you will be extremely fertile and it should be used as the most favourable conception time."
Though that it was interresting. But, yes, in some women, you can get pregnant.

You can get pregnant even if you're on your period. Sperm can survive in the fallopian tubes for up to five days. Which means a girl can have sex on the day of her period and get pregnant five days later while sitting in the middle of class.
THE ONLY 100% FOOLPROOF WAY NOT TO GET PREGNANT IS TO NOT HAVE SEX.

Nothing wrong with that as long as its ok for both partners, I only do it to my wife at that time of the month if she gets really horny, otherwise I prefer bloodless love making. As far as pregnancy is concerned your safe as your body is cleaning out the sac of blood that waits for a fertilized egg to attach, if it doesn't you get a period.

Biologically, you are not supposed to get pregnant when you have an intercourse during your menstrual cycle however there are incidences that women still do get pregnant. So, it is not 100% guaranteed however it is less likely to happen.
Depending your flow, things may get all bloody.
